The flag of Angola was adopted in 1975. The background is composed of two equally sized horizontal bars. The upper bar of red symbolizes the blood that was shed during Angola’s struggle for freedom while the lower black bar represents Africa. The yellow machete, star, and half gear wheel in the center of the flag symbolize the industrial and agricultural workers of Angola.
