Description

Although it was originally designed in 1950, Belize adopted their flag in 1981. The red stripes were added in 1981 upon gaining independence from Great Britain. The emblem in the center is the national coat of arms. The words “Sub umbra floreo” translates to “in the shadow flourish”. This refers to Belize’s colonial past.
