The flag of Bonaire was first flown in 1981. Its complicated design features three diagonal stripes of yellow, blue, and white. They represent the sun, water, and sky. The red star in the middle of the white stripe is symbolic of the original villages of Bonaire. The black compass surrounding it is meant to honor the fact that its residents come from all over the world.
