The national flag of Laos was originally adopted in 1945, then re-adopted in 1975. The white circle or disc is meant to represent unity among the Lao people. Bloodshed in the struggle for independence is represented by the red bands while prosperity is represented by the blue band. While Laos is a communist country, it does not use the communist symbol of a five-pointed star.
