The flag of Lithuania was originally adopted in 1918, then made illegal by the USSR in 1940 to later be re-adopted in 1989. The yellow-green-red colors in the flag are part of the traditional dress and folk weavings of Lithuania. Law requires that the national flag be flown during independence days or homeowners may be fined.
