Milford Sound is located in the southwestern part of New Zealand. It is a giant fjord, which means it is a gigantic indention in the ground that is surrounded by cliffs, which act as natural walls. Milford Sound was naturally build by water from the Cleddau river eroding away at the earth. One of the mountains surrounding the area is called Mitre Peak, which goes up over five thousand feet from the base of Milford Sound. It is the most popular tourist location in New Zealand.
