The Qinghai Tibet Plateau is more commonly known as the Himalayan Plateau or just the Tibetan Plateau. It is one of the largest elevated plains in the world. In fact, the plateau covers most of the Tibet Autonomous Region and even extends into a large part of the Qinghai Province in China, as well as covering certain parts of India. Because of the large size, locals sometimes refer to it as the roof of the world. The whole of the plateau covers almost a million square miles. The plateau is also covered in glaciers, which scientists today are studying to learn more about climate change.
