Description
The Sea of Okhotsk is in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean. Russia controls most of the coastal regions that surround it. The exception is one southern portion of the sea, which borders Hokkaido, a Japanese island. It is the coldest East Asian sea and one of the hardest to navigate. That is due to a combination of submerged rocky outcroppings in some areas and ice formations at certain times of the year.
