Siargao is actually a group of islets and islands. It is collectively often called Siargao Island. Home to the Siargao Cup surfing competition, it is known as the Philippine surfing capital. The best surfing at Siargao occurs between August and November. The waters are perfect for surfing, especially due to the coral reefs in the area, which influence wave patterns. Its proximity to the Philippine Trench also creates large swells ideal for surfing.
