The flag of Sri Lanka was adopted in 1972 and is also known as the Lion or Sinha flag. The lion stands for bravery and the four leaves the main concepts in Buddhism. The colors stand for Muslims (green), Sinhalese (maroon), Tamils (Saffron) and unity of the people (gold border).
