The Stone Forest is part of the Yunnan province in China. It has a very literal name since the forest is actually made entirely out of stone. The rock formations tower in the air, acting as the trees of the forest. The stones are actually the petrified remains of trees, which is how they got their size and shape. The trees turned to stone because the wood had gotten so old. Every year, the Yi people have an annual celebration in the Stone Forest, which is known as the Torch Festival.
