Description

This is a giant sculpture that stands 20 ft (6m) in height and 33 ft (10m) long. It is carved on the remains of a quarry rock used to build the town of Lucerne. The monument is a picture of a giant dying lion intended to be a memorial for Switzerland mercenary soldiers who died in the French revolution serving King Louis XVI. Initially, it was private property, but later the city of Lucerne bought it. Presently, it is among Lucerne’s most popular tourist attractions.
