Hoover Dam: The Hoover Dam was built during the great depression. Construction began in 1931, and ended in 1936. The Hoover Dam got the name from president Herbert Hoover. It was designed to control floods, help provide irrigation water, and produce hydroelectric power. The Hoover Dam was the first dam to be used to create power on a large scale. It is located between Nevada and Arizona.
Grand Canyon: The Grand Canyon is an incredibly wide and steep canyon formed by the Colorado River in Arizona. The canyon is over two hundred miles long, eighteen miles wide, and over a mile deep. Scientists still don’t know how the magnificent canyon was formed, but they believe it was from erosion caused by the Colorado River.
Flag: Originally adopted in 1777, the flag of the USA was modified in 1960 with 50 stars to represent all 50 states. The red and white stripes stand for the original thirteen colonies declaring independence from Britain. This flag is also called Old Glory, The Star-Spangled Banner, and The Stars and Stripes.
