The U.S. Virgin Islands flag was designed in 1921. It features an eagle similar to that on the U.S. flag gripping arrows and laurel. The arrows represent the territory’s three largest islands. The body of the eagle is covered by a shield featuring the U.S. flag colors of red, white and blue. The blue letters “V” and “I” flanking the eagle stand for “Virgin Islands.”
