The Volcán Arenal is an active stratovolcano, which is a cone shaped type of volcano created from layers of lava that has hardened over time. The volcano is located in the northern part of Costa Rica. Historians believe that the volcano is over seven thousand years old. It is one of the larger volcanos, standing well over five thousand feet high. The last active eruption was in 2010, making it one of the most active volcanos in Costa Rica.
